Strategies for Small Charities

Strategies for Small Charities

As you prepare for non-profit growth, here are four simple strategies for small charities that you can adapt into your organisation:

1. Don’t Underestimate Your Team’s Potential

You may be a small non-profit organisation now, but your team is capable of doing more work than what they’re asked to. A lot of small non-profits began with just a two-person team, and they were able to grow from that.

Since your team members will be the heart and soul of your organisation, you need to know their capabilities and maximise their potential as you grow together.

2. Think of the Future

Although you’re still small, you always have to think about your potential for non-profit growth. This will allow you to create your goals and objectives with the direction of eventually growing.

When the time comes that you become big, you won’t have a hard time making adjustments because you’re already running with the bigger picture in mind. Invest in tools, equipment and strategies that will easily grow with you.

3. Be Smart About Advertising

As a non-profit, you need to make your organisation known to the public so people know about your cause and most importantly, you can motivate them to make donations to sustain your organisation.

Unfortunately, you can’t rely on word-of-mouth anymore because of the many other organisations out there who needs donors. But you may also have the dilemma of not having enough resources to fund your marketing efforts.

The good news is, you already have a lot of options when it comes to no-cost advertising. Social media is an amazing platform for promoting your organisation without spending anything at all.

In fact, Facebook and Instagram now have “donate” features where people can easily make donations after seeing your account and your causes. You can even host virtual fundraisers on social media where you are able to reach people from around the world without spending a lot.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Support

Finally, you should never be ashamed to ask for support when you need it. Whether it’s for a fundraiser or simply to sustain your non-profit, it’s very important to know exactly how to ask for support from people who share your interest or have the same causes as you.

Remember that when a donor says “no,” it doesn’t necessarily mean complete rejection. Sometimes, people just need more convincing before they can fully understand your goals and support you.
